Residents Role
The Resident sees something that needs to be done. Or, he may be aware of his own need that has to be met. These are things to think about, before pushing the nurse call light. What should he do, before he involves staff?
1. Assess situation and see what the situation
really is. Assesses timeframe it needs to be
dealt with. How urgent is it?
2. If he is able to carry out solution, himself?
Do you NEED assistance?
3. How much assistance is NEEDED? When
considering this, be HONEST with amount of
laziness involved. Doing things for yourself
is very therapeutic. Builds self-esteem and
character. Lessens Frustration.
4. Work with Staff person to come to viable
solution.
People, whether Staff or Resident, tend to be lazy or bored, if they are NOT involved with what they do. I think that a NEEDS and PREFERENCES list tends to put ALL on the same page.
